GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman cruised past Marshall, 6-1, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins swept the singles matches for the victory. Senior Julia Adams, who ranks 62nd nationally, defeated Emma Vanderheyden, 7-5, 6-2, at flight one, and sophomore Ellie Schoppe moved to flight two, where she beat Liz Stefancic, 6-3, 6-3. At flight three, junior Madison Dillon recorded a 6-4, 6-4 advantage versus Madi Ballow, and at number four, freshman Sara Snyder came from behind to defeat Sophia Hurrion, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Jess Dawson posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Gabrielle Clairotte at number five, and rookie Ellie Schulson blew past Jutte Van Hansewyck, 6-0, 6-2, at flight six.Â
The Thundering Herd (5-3) won the doubles point with victories at flights one and three. At flight two, Furman's Dillon and Shulson made quick work of Clairotte and Hurrion, 6-1. Ballow and Van Hansewyck then defeated Dawson and Snyder, 6-2, at flight three, and Vanderheyden and Stefancic won the decisive flight one match, 6-3, over Adams and Schoppe to take the point. Â
Furman (6-3) will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Wake Forest next Saturday at noon.
