Atlanta, Ga. – Georgia Tech scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on Tuesday afternoon to secure a 5-0 victory over the Furman softball team in non-conference action from Mewborn Field.
Furman drops to 3-7 overall while Georgia Tech improves to 9-2 on the season.
Chandler Dennis (3-1) tossed a complete game shutout for the Yellow Jackets and gave up one hit, one walk and struck out 11.
Lauralee Scott (1-2) suffered the loss pitching four innings and allowed one run on six hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Ella Edgmon highlighted Georgia Tech's four-run sixth inning with a two RBI single to center field that started the scoring. Emma Kauf followed with an RBI ground out to second base and Tricia Awald drove in Edgmon on her RBI double to left center field.
The Yellow Jackets struck first with a single run during the bottom of the third. Kauf led off the frame with a single up the middle and then stole second base. Scott responded by getting Awald to fly out to left field and then struck out Mallorie Black. Sara Beth Allen plated Kauf with her RBI single to put Georgia Tech in front 1-0.
Emily Bartlett led the Paladins with one hit and
Riley Ludlam drew one walk.
Allen and Edgmon both recorded two hits for the Yellow Jackets and Edgmon posted a game high two RBI.
Furman returns to Greenville this weekend, February 25-27, to host George Mason, Iona and Presbyterian as part of the GVL Showdown at Pepsi Stadium. The Paladins face George Mason on Friday, George Mason and Iona on Saturday, and Presbyterian in a doubleheader on Sunday.
