CHATTANOOGA, TENN. --
Sydney James scored 15 points and Furman used solid perimeter shooting to roll past Chattanooga, 64-43, in Southern Conference women's basketball action on Thursday evening at McKenzie Arena.
In winning for the seventh time in its last 10 games, Furman (16-11, 9-4 SoCon) clinched a winning season, completed the regular season sweep of Chattanooga (7-21, 5-8 SoCon), and notched its fourth straight triumph over the Mocs.  The 21-point victory was the Paladins' second largest in the series with Chattanooga, and the 43 points allowed was the second lowest surrendered by Furman to UTC in series history, bested only by the 40 Furman gave up in last year's 58-40 win in SoCon Tournament play.
Furman will carry the No. 3 seed into next Thursday's Ingles Southern Conference Tournament at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville and will play the No. 6 seed, which could be Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, or UNC Greensboro, in a 5:45 p.m. contest. The Paladins conclude the regular season on Saturday in a noon contest at ETSU.
The Paladins' win over Chattanooga marked the 100th Southern Conference victory for Paladin head coach
Jackie Carson, who is in her 12th season at her alma mater.
James drained her first four 3-point attempts and finished the game making 5-of-8 from beyond the arc to pace the Paladins, who knocked a season high 13 treys on 27 attempts.
Grace van Rij was the only other Paladin to score in double figures as Carson played all 17 players in uniform.
Tierra Hodges struggled from a shooting standpoint but topped Furman with 11 rebounds. Â The Paladins forged a 48-38 advantage on the boards.
Dena Jarrells led UTC with 13 points.
Tate Walters combined eight points with nine rebounds and seven assists, but the sophomore guard's potential run at a triple double was cut short due to Furman's big fourth quarter lead that sent her to the bench in favor of reserves.
The Paladins raced to a 17-5 lead after one quarter and were never threatened thereafter. Â
