Orlando, Fla. – Kama Woodall allowed one hit over four innings and Jada Cody had three RBI to give the 24
th-ranked UCF Knights a three-game sweep of the Furman softball team on Sunday afternoon, winning the series finale 9-0 in five innings at the UCF Softball Complex.
Furman falls to 9-13 overall while UCF improves to 26-7 on the season.
Woodall (9-1) and Angelina DeVoe combined to limit the Paladins to just one hit over five innings. Woodall surrendered two walks and struck out two while DeVoe tossed one scoreless inning of relief.
Sierra Tufts (5-6) took the loss giving up nine runs on 11 hits, one walk and one strikeout over 2.2 innings of work.
The Knights scored in each of the first three innings highlighted by a five-run bottom of the second. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Cody capped the five-run second with her three-run homer to left field. Savannah Adams began the scoring in the second with an RBI single and Johneisha Rowe followed with an RBI infield single. Kennedy Searcy plated two runs with her RBI single in the bottom of third and Micaela Macario added an RBI single.
Riley Ludlam led the Paladins offensively going 1-for-2 while
Emily Bartlett and
Kaitlyn Laudick both drew walks.
Cody, Rowe, Searcy and Denali Schappacher all recorded two hits for UCF. Cody finished with a game high three RBI while Searcy contributed two. Cody and Schappacher both scored two runs.
Furman continues its road trip on Tuesday traveling to Spartanburg for a doubleheader against USC Upstate beginning at 3 p.m.
