COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Junior Josh Powers and freshman Kaylie Armitage won the men's and women's 1,500m, respectively, Saturday to lead the Furman outdoor track and field teams in the final day of the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
Powers posted a time of 4:01.35 for the victory, leading a group of four Paladins among the top five finishers. Junior Mac Roberts was second at 4:03.90, followed by freshman Nick Goldstein in third at 4:06.68. Freshman Ethan Vargas finished fifth with a time of 4:07.49, and rookie Casey Burr tuned in a time of 4:13.15 for tenth place. Junior Benjamin Seeber rounded out the Furman runners in 16th place at 4:16.40.
On the women's side, Armitage took gold with a time of 4:44.41 and also paced a group of four Paladins who finished in the top five. Sophomore Beth Donnelly finished second with a time of 4:47.74, followed by freshman Callie Harper in third place at 4:49.50. Sophomore Kylie Wittman recorded a time of 4:53.40 for fifth place.
Furman will compete at the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Ole Miss Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss., April 8-9.
