Dintino’s Four Goals Send Furman Past Radford, 12-6

Paladins Collect Fourth Win in Five Games

Greenville, S.C. – Hannah Dintino scored a career high four goals on Wednesday evening to give the Furman women's lacrosse team its fourth win in five games following a 12-6 Big South victory over the Radford Highlanders at Paladin Stadium.

Furman improves to 4-6 overall and 4-1 in the Big South while Radford drops to 1-11 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.

Dintino, a junior from Westminster, Md., led all players by tying her career high of five points on four goals and one assist while adding two ground balls. Sophie Shaw and Paige Harman both contributed three points on two goals and an assist. Meagan Beal scored twice and Anna Roser provided two points on one goal and one assist. Sophia Buzelis had one goal and tied her career high of three caused turnovers. Lauren Farber won four draws, Ellie Roser picked up a career best five ground balls and Amanda McCabe caused a career high four turnovers.

In goal, Lily Rathbun made 10 saves, her fourth game this season finishing in double figures, and grabbed five ground balls.

Molly O'Brien had a team high three points for the Highlanders on two goals and one assist. Linley Tirrell, Grace Gleason, Margaret Gleason and Jessica Diorio all had one goal. Carlie Rosenburg dished out one assist. Cameron Counts collected four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Olivia Hunter registered 10 saves and one ground ball in goal for Radford.

The Paladins opened the game on a 4-1 run, with Dintino scoring twice, and would hold a 6-2 lead with 36 seconds remaining before halftime after Beal recorded back-to-back goals. The Highlanders would get a goal from Margaret Gleason 11 seconds later to send Furman into intermission leading 6-3.

Radford wasted little time cutting its deficit down to two goals to start the second half when O'Brien's first goal made the score 6-4 at the 14:12 mark. That would be the only goal the Paladins allowed in the third quarter as Dintino added a goal with 6:11 to go to put them back in front 7-4.

Dintino's goal sparked a 4-0 run for Furman extending into the fourth quarter and increased its lead out to 10-4 with 7:14 left in the contest. Dintino added another goal during the run while Shaw and Harman scored within two minutes of each other. The teams traded goals over the final five minutes with Harman and Buzelis scoring for the Paladins. Buzelis' goal with nine seconds remaining made the final score 12-6.

Furman concluded the game holding a 38-24 advantage in shots and led 28-20 in ground balls. The Paladins won 10 draws and forced the Highlanders into 21 turnovers.

Furman heads to Rock Hill on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Big South matchup at Winthrop.
