Three Paladins Earn SoCon Men's Golf Postseason Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Jack Crosby and Ross Funderburke each earned their first-career All-Southern Conference citation, and Will Morlan was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team, as announced today by the league office.

The teams are selected by a vote of the league's eight head coaches.

"We are all very proud of and happy for Jack, Ross, and Will," said Furman head coach Matt Davidson, "Being named all-conference is quite an accomplishment for Jack and Ross.  We play in a deep and competitive league, and there were so many solid candidates this year.  This honor is a testament to how consistent they both played all year long.  They are such hard workers and team leaders, and this is very well deserved for both of them.

"Ross continues to improve every year, which has been so much fun to watch," continued Davidson.  "For Jack, this is a fitting way to end his great career.  He rose to the responsibility of being team captain this year and he has been a huge part of our success the last four years."

A fifth-year senior from Memphis, Tenn., Crosby leads the Paladins and ranks fifth in the SoCon with a 71.80 stroke average over 30 rounds this season.  He has three top-10 finishes this season after tying for seventh with a score of 72-72-72=216 at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in February.  He tied for eighth to open the fall season at the Gopher Invitational and fired a season-best 67 in the second round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for ninth. The 2019 SoCon Freshman of the Year, Crosby won the individual championship at the 2018 Camden Collegiate Invitational and the 2019 Wofford Invitational.  His 72.8 career stroke average over 93 rounds ranks third in program history.

Funderburke, a junior from Roanoke, Va., ranked second for Furman and sixth in the league with a 71.83 stroke average over 30 rounds in 2021-22.  He notched six top-20 finishes in 10 events, including a career-best second-place finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, where he registered rounds of 68-68-70=206.  Funderburke finished 13th at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate after carding two rounds under par and concluded the season tied for 24th at the SoCon Championship.  He fired a season-best 67 in the final round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.

A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Morlan compiled a 73.71 stroke average over 21 rounds during his freshman campaign.  He finished 17th at the SoCon Championship, a season best, after posting rounds of 71-73-73=217.  Morlan carded a career-best 70 in the third round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate and the opening round of the Wolfpack Collegiate.

"What an honor for Will," said Davidson.  "He came to Furman this fall with an injury and was unable to compete for the first half of the fall season.  Will showed a lot of perseverance to come back and get healthy and was a major contributor for us this season. This has certainly been a solid freshman year for him to build on, and he has an exciting future ahead."
