GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head football coach Clay Hendrix has announced the addition of a pair of graduate transfers to the Paladins' program.

Offensive lineman Gerrik Vollmer and wide receiver Kyndel Dean have joined the Paladins.

Vollmer, a 6-foot-5, 313-pound product of Hamburg, Germany, played the 2021 season at Old Dominion, where he saw action in five games and made three starts for the Monarchs.  Prior to his year at ODU he spent four years as a member of the University of Virginia football program, appearing in 10 games in two seasons of play and contributing as a backup center and member of special teams.  He secured his bachelor's degree in inter-American studies from UVA .

Dean is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Winston-Salem, N.C., who spent the last five years at James Madison, where he saw action in 36 games and registered 20 starts for the Dukes.  As a redshirt freshman in 2018 he earned starts in all 13 games and collected Hero Sports Freshman All-America honors after catching 47 passes for 614 yards and five touchdowns.  In 2019 he was credited with 20 receptions for 263 yards and a score.

He played in all eight of JMU's games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season but sat out the 2021 campaign due to injury.

Dean secured his undergraduate degree in kinesiology.

The addition of Vollmer and Dean give the Paladins four graduate transfers for 2022.  They join quarterback Tyler Huff from Presbyterian and tight end Parks Gissinger from Michigan State, who became Paladins in March and May, respectively.

Furman is projected to return 15 starters and 42 lettermen this fall.
