Greenville, S.C. – Furman tallied two goals in each half en route to a 4-0 victory over North Greenville in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.
"Once again, we came out and got two early goals and were able to take control in the first half, which was positive," said Paladin head coach
Andrew Burr. "It was our first experience of the year playing a second match in the span of 48 hours, and that's something we will have to condition ourselves for going forward. It's all about continuing to improve as we get closer to conference play."
Furman grabbed the lead in the opening 20 minutes and cruised to victory to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Hannah Farr put the Paladins in front at 19:27 by finishing from close range on assists from
Stella Garcia and
Cameron Whitacre. Less than three minutes later, Garcia found the net off a failed clearance on a Paladin corner kick to extend the lead to 2-0.
Junior
Nieva Gaither netted her first goal of the campaign at the 55:35 mark from inside of six yards off a
Julia Nicholas pass. Freshman
Julie Galie provided the final 4-0 margin in the 87
th minute.
Riley Parsons played a pass down the right wing to
Michaela Fisher, who sent a cross towards the far post for Galie to nod into an empty net at the 86:05 mark.
The Paladins held a 15-7 advantage in total shot attempts and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal.
Addison Corn picked up the victory in goal, while
Nora Sampson and
Abby Ross combined with the junior to record Furman's second clean sheet in as many games. Samantha Montgomery stopped seven shots in a losing effort for the Crusaders.
