Greenville, S.C. – Elon netted a pair of goals off second half corner kicks to hand Furman its first loss of the 2022 season, 2-0, Tuesday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.
The Phoenix opened the scoring at 76:04 when Kasper Lehrn served a corner kick into the six-yard box that Sam Durand flicked inside the far post for his first goal of the campaign. Less than two minutes later, Lehrn helped Elon double the lead by serving a corner kick in front of goal. Mason Duval won a scramble for the ball and poked a shot into the left side for his third score of the year at 77:45.
"Elon is a very good team and earned its goals tonight," said Paladin head coach
Doug Allison. "They definitely took advantage of their chances in the box and that was the difference."
Ryan Bilichuk turned away six shots to earn the victory for the Phoenix, while Furman's
Ben Roberts stopped five shots in the loss. Elon managed an 18-11 edge in total shots and an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Furman produced chances to score in both halves, but
Christian Kraus,
Dylan Lane and
Sam Miller each had a pair of goal-bound shots saved.
