JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – Tyler Huff passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 95 yards, as Furman opened Southern Conference play Saturday evening with a 27-14 victory over the FCS 18
th-ranked East Tennessee State Buccaneers at Greene Stadium.
Furman, which won for the fourth time in its last five games in Johnson City, improves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in SoCon play. With the loss East Tennessee State drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Huff accounted for 316 yards of offense after going 24-of-40 passing for 218 yards and two touchdowns while running for 98 yards on 13 carries.
Dominic Roberto added 80 yards rushing and a touchdown on 10 carries, his final carry covering 46 yards for a score with 48 seconds remaining.
Joshua Harris contributed 95 yards receiving on a game and career high eight catches.
Hugh Ryan and
Bryce McCormick had a team high eight tackles apiece with Ryan adding an interception and forced fumble.
Dominic Morris and
Jalen Miller also had interceptions.
The Paladins compiled 409 yards of offense (218 pass, 191 rush), and the defense forced the Buccaneers into four turnovers.
Furman steps out of conference for the final time next weekend when it travels to North Charleston, S.C. on September 24 for a 12 p.m. kickoff against Charleston Southern at Buccaneer Field.
