GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team concluded play Sunday at the 35th annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic, which was held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
Sophomore Ellie Schulson finished third in flight six with a 6-4, 6-2 win versus Vanderbilt's Marcella Cruz, and sophomore Sara Snyder finished as runner up in flight seven after falling to South Carolina's Ana Cruz, 6-0, 6-3, in the flight championship.
In flight five action, Ruth Marsh of Georgia Tech held off sophomore Marissa Pennings, 6-3, 6-3, and at flight seven, Ohio State's Danielle Schoenly defeated sophomore Alexa Griffith, 6-4, 6-2.
Eight of the ten teams which competed in the tournament were ranked in the top 39 in the 2022 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: North Carolina (3), Duke (4), Ohio State (15), Wake Forest (23), Vanderbilt (27), South Carolina (28), Georgia Tech (32), and Furman (39). Clemson concluded last season ranked 63rd, while Mississippi State was 68th.
Furman will compete at the Sea Pines College Tournament Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Hilton Head, S.C.
