Furman Earns Tie In Sunday Tilt At Chattanooga, 1-1

Paladins Host Samford On Thursday Night

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Madison Luckett netted her first goal of the season to help the Furman women's soccer team run its unbeaten streak to five matches and earn a 1-1 draw versus Chattanooga in Southern Conference play on Sunday at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The stalemate moved the Paladins to 5-3-4 overall and kept head coach Andrew Burr's squad undefeated in league play at 1-0-3, while Chattanooga went to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the SoCon.

Senior Camryn Bolick chipped a pass into the center of the box and Luckett fired her right-footed effort between two defenders and into the left side of the net from eight yards out to give Furman an early lead at the 5:01 mark.

The Mocs (8-3-4, 2-1-1 SoCon) evened the contest in the opening minutes of the second half through Mackenzie Smith. Kennedy Heavrin gathered the ball deep on the right side and played a pass back to Smith at the top of the box on the right side. Smith hit a one-timer that beat Furman goalkeeper Addison Corn and nestled into the left-side netting at 48:55.

Chattanooga rattled the woodwork three times during the match, including twice in the second half. The cross bar also denied the Paladins a go-ahead goal as freshman Norah Roller banged a left-footed strike off the bar with just over 11 minutes to play. The Mocs had one more late chance to break the tie, but Furman's Ellie Herrmann redirected a goal-bound attempt in the final minutes to preserve the draw.

Corn totaled seven saves for the Paladins, while Caroline Ekern finished with five saves for Chattanooga. The Mocs posted a 23-11 advantage in total shots, but just an 8-6 edge in shots on target.

Furman returns home on Thursday night to host the Samford Bulldogs. Kickoff at Stone Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
