No. 4 Seed Furman Takes On UNCG In Friday Afternoon SoCon Quarterfinals

ESPN+ To Stream Furman-UNCG Match In Cullowhee, N.C.

Greenville, S.C. – No. 4 seed Furman opens play in the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Friday afternoon when it faces the fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro Spartans in quarterfinal round action at the Catamount Soccer Complex in Cullowhee, N.C.
 
Friday's kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+. Links for the live stream and live statistics can be accessed at FurmanPaladins.com. The winner of Friday's match will advance to Sunday's semifinal round in Cullowhee to face the winner of Friday's match between the No. 1 seed Western Carolina and No. 8 seed Wofford.
 
Furman enters the postseason at 7-4-6 overall and 3-1-5 in league play after earning a 1-1 draw at Wofford in the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon at Snyder Field. The Terriers grabbed the first-half lead before freshman Maddie Massie scored in the 60th minute on an assist from Valentina Mosquera to level the match. With the draw, Furman moved to 4-1-5 in its last 10 matches.
 
Friday's match will mark the 41st all-time meeting between Furman and UNCG with the Spartans holding a 19-18-3 series lead after claiming a 1-0 victory over the Paladins in Greensboro, N.C., on October 8. The schools have split 13 previous meetings in the postseason, 6-6-1. In the last postseason meeting in 2019, Furman downed UNCG, 1-0, in the SoCon semifinals.
 
The Paladins are 41-17-2 all-time in the SoCon Tournament and have claimed the title seven times. The most recent championship came in the spring of 2020 when Furman followed an undefeated regular season by topping Samford in Birmingham, Ala., to capture the tournament crown.
