Late Goal Lifts Wofford Over Furman In Regular Season Finale, 1-0

Paladins Face VMI In SoCon First Round On November 3

Spartanburg, S.C. – Thaddeus Dennis scored in the 81st minute to lift Wofford to a 1-0 victory over Furman men's soccer in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday night at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

With the victory, Wofford (7-3-6, 3-0-2 SoCon) clinched the No. 2 seed, a first-round bye, and will host in next week's Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championship. Furman, 8-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the league, was forced to settle for the No. 3 seed. The Paladins will face No. 6 seed VMI in Spartanburg on Friday, November 3, with the winner to face Wofford in semifinal round action on Sunday, November 5, at Snyder Field.

Furman held the Terriers without a shot on goal for over 80 minutes before Wofford grabbed the lead at the 80:23 mark. Hugo Moldin accelerated past a defender and into the right side of the box. He backheeled a pass to Nikolai Rojel who played a low cross into the six-yard box that Dennis redirected into the back of the net.

The Paladins mounted one last offensive in the final moments, but Wofford's defense cleared Slade Starnes' shot off the line at the 87-minute mark and goalkeeper Cameron Victor smothered a goal-bound shot by Furman on the final kick of the game. Victor finished with three saves to earn the shutout.

Christian Kraus recorded two shots on goal as Furman posted a 10-7 edge in total shots and 4-1 advantage in shots on target.
