Greenville, S.C. – No. 4 seed Furman will look to earn a spot in the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship Match when it travels to Cullowhee, N.C., to face top-seeded Western Carolina in semifinal action Sunday at the Catamounts Soccer Complex.
Kickoff on Sunday is set for 1 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+. Links for the live stream and live statistics will be available at FurmanPaladins.com. The winner of Sunday's contest will face either Samford or ETSU in the finals on November 4 or 5.
Furman advanced to semifinals on penalty kicks on Friday afternoon in Cullowhee. After a 2-2 draw,
Helen Gutierrez,
Valentina Mosquera, and
Shania Diaz converted from the spot for the Paladins and
Addison Corn came up with a pair of saves to help the Paladins edge UNC Greensboro, 3-1, on penalty kicks.
Maddie Massie and
Ashlyn Goila each tallied a goal and an assist in the first half as the Paladins built a 2-0 lead after 45 minutes. UNCG rallied with a pair of second-half scores before Furman prevailed in the shootout.
Western Carolina (11-4-3), the SoCon's regular season champion, blasted Wofford, 5-0 in quarterfinal round action on Friday night.
Furman (7-4-7) edged the Catamounts, 2-1, during the regular season at the Catamount Sports Complex. The Paladins hold a 23-8-1 in the all-time series versus Western Carolina, including a 5-2 mark against the Catamounts in SoCon Tournament play. A win on Sunday would give Furman its 18
th appearance in the SoCon Championship Match.
