Luke Tandy scored on a first half free kick and Furman men's soccer notched its third consecutive shutout with a 1-0 victory over VMI at Patchin Field in Lexington, Va., on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Paladins improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in Southern Conference play while the Keydets fell to 3-9-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.
After the Paladins drew a foul nearly 30 yards from goal, Tandy stepped up and rocketed a shot into the right-hand side netting to register his first goal of the season and second of his career at the 26:01 mark.
Freshman goalkeeper
Aaron Salinas stopped four shots in his return to the Paladin lineup to notch his third clean sheet of the campaign. Zack Murphy totaled six saves in a losing effort for the Keydets.
Furman dominated the chances throughout the match and finished with a 19-11 advantage in total attempts. The Paladins posted a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
Furman visits Mercer on Saturday, October 14, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
