Greensboro, N.C. – Caroline Woods scored with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half and UNC Greensboro held on down the stretch to snap Furman's six-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 decision on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, NC.
UNCG controlled the possession and scoring opportunities before finding the breakthrough in the 36
th minute. After a scramble near the top of the box that saw Furman block several UNCG attempts, Woods gathered the ball on the right side of the box off a pass from Claire Esse and lashed a shot across the face of goal into the left-hand corner at the 35:01 mark to put the Spartans on top. The strike marked the third goal of the campaign for Woods.
Furman (5-4-5, 1-1-4 SoCon) went on the attack in the second half. Forwards

Norah Roller forced saves in the early portion of the second half before Spartan goalkeeper Abby Buchholz punched
Shania Diaz's goal-bound free kick over the cross bar in the 78
th minute. Less than two minutes later, defender
Miya Poplin curled a free kick from the midfield stripe into the path of
Maddie Massie in the box, but the freshman's left-footed one-time flashed over the bar. Buchholz made one more diving save at the right post in the 88
th minute to deny Diaz's bid for an equalizer.
UNCG (5-8-2, 2-4-1) finished the match with a 12-7 advantage in total shots while Furman claimed a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The Spartans fashioned a 7-6 edge in corner kicks earned.
Buchholz stopped four shots to earn the victory for UNCG and Furman's
Addison Corn notched two saves in a losing effort for the Paladins.
Furman is back in action on Thursday when it travels to Lexington, Va., to take on SoCon foe VMI at 4 p.m. The Paladins return home to host Mercer for Senior Day on Sunday, October 15.
