BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO -- Zada Porter's 3-pointer with three minutes remaining in the game broke a 59-59 tie and helped lift Appalachian State to a 68-63 victory over Furman in Thursday afternoon women's basketball action at Coliseo Ruben Roddiquez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Kate Johnson tied the game at 59-59 with a free throw.
Jada Session pulled Furman to within 62-61 with a basket at the 3:13 mark, but the Mountaineers' Emily Carver's layup with 2:15 to go pushed the lead back to three points, and Appalachian State used free throws from Porter and Faith Alston in the final minute to play to nail down the victory.
Furman's
Niveya Henley registered a career high 19 points, making good on 8-of-11 shots and 3-of-4 shots from 3-point range.
The Paladins (3-3) lost despite converting on 7-of-16 3-point attempts and out-rebounding the Mountineers 41-22. The culprit was 31 turnovers, which allowed Appalachian State to forge a 29-14 scoring differential off miscues and attempt 16 shots than Furman.
Alston led Appalachian State with 17 points, followed by Porter with 14 and Carter with 13.
Four Paladins reached double figures for the Paladins, with Walters' 14 points trailing Henley. Session and
Kate Johnson finished with 10 each. Session's 11 caroms topped all rebounders.
The Paladins forged an eight-point lead at 33-25 following a Henley 3-pointer with 3:25 in the first half and took a 34-28 advantage into the break.
Appalachian State opened the second half with a 7-0 run to go up, 35-35, on a Porter free throw four minutes into the third period, but Furman responded with an 11-2 spurt, fueled by a three baskets by Walters to grab a 45-37 advantage.
The Mountaineers fashioned a 12-3 run to close the third period, capped by a Chae Harris basket, to go up 49-48.
Furman will return to action on Saturday against Binghamton in a 1:30 p.m. ET contest.
