Tate Walters drained a jump shot with 18 seconds remaining to complete a comeback, 74-72Â Furman victory over Binghamton in women's basketball play Saturday afternoon at Coliseo Ruben Rodriquez.
Walters' decisive shot came after
Sydney Ryan rebounded a Walters miss with 32 seconds to go and fed the redshirt junior guard, who bottomed out the jump shot from the elbow to give Furman its game winning points.
The Paladins erased a 48-37 halftime deficit behind a 19-point, 16-rebound performance by
Jada Session and 18-point scoring effort by
Sydney Ryan, who tallied 12 of her points in the second half on 4-for-4 shooting from 3-point range.
Walters finished with 14 points, and
Kate Johnson contributed 11 for Furman (4-3), which sliced Binghamton's 11-point lead by scoring the first seven points of the second half. Â Ryan's first 3-pointer of the second half gave the Paladins a 51-50 lead at the 4:47 mark of the third period.
Ryan closed out the third period with a pair of 3-pointers to tie it at 59-59.
Session drained one of two free throws with 1:03 to go to put Furman up, 72-71, but Jadyn Weltz answered with a free throw to tie it at 72-72 with 46 seconds remaining. Â Following a timeout, Walters' 3-point attempt missed but was collected by Ryan. Â Walters didn't miss her final shot, putting down the 15-footer for the go-ahead basket.
Wentz paced Binghamton (2-5) with 18 points. Â The Bearcats shot 46.9 percent from the field (30x64), which allowed Binghamton to counter Furman's 43-22 rebounding advantage.
The Paladins found the mark on 27-of-63 shots (42.9 percent) and 7-of-17 3-pointers, with Ryan connecting on 5-of-5 treys.
Furman plays at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
