GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head football coach
Clay Hendrix today announced the addition of five players to the Paladins' latest recruiting class.
The five additions, along with a graduate transfer defensive lineman announced last week and 15 signees from December's early signing period, give Furman 21 newcomers for the 2023 season.
The latest Furman signees include cornerbacks
Hysan Dalton from Buford, Ga., and
Jaylen Moson from Ackworth, Ga.; defensive linemen
Joshua Stoneking from Raleigh, N.C., and Marc Hernández of Fort Worth, Texas; and Shelby N.C., wide receiver
Ja'Keith Hamilton.
Dalton, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound performer, was a member of Buford High School's 2021 6A state championship team who played this past fall at Fork Union Military Academy.
Moson, rated a 3-star recruit by 24/7, racked up over 25 scholarship offers, including more than a dozen from FBS programs. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound product Kennesaw Mountain (7A) High School combined to register six interceptions and over 20 pass breakups as a junior and senior, as well as all-region and All-Cobb County honors.
Stoneking is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound standout from Cardinal Gibbons (4A) High School, where he twice landed all-state honors and was selected both conference defensive player of the year and MVP. His junior year he helped lead his squad to a 16-0 record and state championship.
Hernández is a transfer from Army-West Point Prep School who will join the program following the spring term. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound performer was recruited by Furman out of L.D. Bell High School in Texas.
Hamilton is an all-state performer and Shrine Bowl selection from Shelby (2A) High School, where he caught 62 passes for 899 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior. As a junior he helped lead Shelby to a 15-1 record and state championship by catching 49 passes for 933 yards and 11 scores.
Furman, coming off a 10-3 season a year ago that included a second round appearance in the FCS playoffs, is projected to return 18 starters and 38 players from its 44-man two-deep this fall off a squad that finished ranked a consensus 10th in both major FCS polls.
The Paladins, who announced the addition of graduate transfer defensive lineman
Sirod Cook to the program on Jan. 27, are scheduled to open spring practice on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
