GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team opens its final road swing of the regular season on Thursday when it travels to Chattanooga to take on the Mocs before facing off against East Tennessee State in Johnson City on Saturday.
Tipoff for the ESPN+ streamed contest at Chattanooga is set for 7:00 p.m., while Saturday's game, which is slated for ESPN3, is a scheduled 2:00 p.m. start.
Furman (10-15, 2-8Â SoCon) dropped the season's first meetings versus Chattanooga, 51-44 2OT, and ETSU, 64-56, in Greenville.
Chattanooga (15-10, 7-3 SoCon), winners of three straight, enters Thursday's contest tied for first place in the SoCon, a game up on ETSU (19-7, 6-4 SoCon), which has won its last two outings. Â The Buccaneers play host to league co-leader Wofford on Thursday.
The Paladins, who have lost six of their last seven outings, dropped a 74-69 verdict at home to UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
Graduate forward
Grace van Rij tops Furman in scoring (13.2 ppg) and is chipping in 6.7 rebounds per game.
Freshman guard
Jaelyn Acker (11.4 ppg), the SoCon's No. 2 freshman scorer, is coming off 19 and 15-point performances against Western Carolina (66-53 win) and UNCG that saw her combine to make 6-of-11 3-pointers in the two contests.
Furman owned five and seven-game series winning streaks against Chattanooga and ETSU, respectively, before seeing both runs halted with losses in Timmons Arena in January. Â A year ago the Paladins won at Chattanooga, 64-43, with the 43 points representing the fewest points registered by UTC versus Furman in Chattanooga. Â Furman downed ETSU, 62-51, in Johnson City last season.
The Paladins wrap up the regular season with a pair of home games, taking on Mercer (Feb. 23) and Samford (Feb. 25).Â
SoCon Tournament play begins on Thursday, Mar. 2, at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.
