GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Sophomore Marissa Pennings scored a third-set victory at flight two to lead Furman past Florida Atlantic, 4-2, Friday in women's tennis action at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins (2-6, 1-0 SoCon) won two of three doubles matches to take the first point.  Carla Galmiche and Millie-Mae Matthews defeated sophomores Alexa Griffith and Sara Snyder, 6-2, to give the Owls (5-6) an advantage before Furman picked up wins at flights one and two for the point.  Pennings and sophomore Ellie Schulson beat Katerina Filip and Martina Kudelova in the top-seeded contest, and senior Madison Dillon and freshman Luca Victoria Vocke recorded a 6-3 victory over Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Lexi Silna at flight two. 

In singles action, Dillon blew past Galmiche, 6-4, 6-0, at number four, to give Furman a 2-0 lead, then Matthews put the Owls on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Griffith at number six.  Gomez O'Hayon topped Vocke, 7-5, 6-2, at number fie to tie the match at 2-all, before Schulson beat Filip, 6-4, 6-2, at flight one to give the Paladins a 3-2 lead.

Matches at flights two and three went to a third set, with Pennings downing Kudelova, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to clinch the match at flight two.  Flight three was unfinished with Snyder leading Silna, 7-5, 4-6, 3-2, when the match was abandoned.

Furman will entertain Yale Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
