UAB Hands Furman 6-1 Loss

Kennedy Wins His Fourth Singles Match of the Season

Greenville, S.C. – The UAB Blazers handed the Furman men's tennis team a 6-1 loss in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.

Furman drops to 3-5 on the season while UAB improves to 5-2 overall.

The Blazers scored in doubles with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead over the Paladins. Michal Lusovsky and Georgios Nouchakis defeated Cole Burnam and Thomas Kennedy, 6-4, at No. 1, and Parker Bradbary and Roman Postolka outlasted Connor Laymon and Chad Nash, 6-4, at No. 3. The No. 2 match featuring Jerry Barton and Elijah Poritzky of Furman and Noah Malige and Nikola Puric of UAB went unfinished.

The Blazers followed in singles play by winning five of the six matches at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6. Lusovsky won 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in the No. 1 match against Barton, and the No. 2 match saw Postolka knock off Poritzky 6-4, 6-3. Nouchakis secured his No. 4 match over Laymon 6-2, 6-1, and Malige, playing at No. 5, defeated John Rado 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 6 match, Carlos Gimenez Perez topped Burnam 6-4, 6-2.

Thomas Kennedy collected his fourth singles win of the season, and third in his last four matches at the No. 3 position, with a straight set victory against Vojtech Podzemny 6-1, 6-1.

Furman remains at home Sunday afternoon to host Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m.
