JOHNSON CITY, TENN. -- Kendall Folley scored 25 points, and East Tennessee State needed virtually every point from the two-time reigning SoCon Player of the Week to hold off Furman, 66-63, in league women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Brooks Gym.
ETSU (21-7, 8-4 SoCon), which steamrolled then-league front runner Wofford on Thursday, 83-45, on Thursday, had a considerably more difficult time in topping Furman (10-17, 2-10 SoCon) for its fourth straight win.
The Buccaneers, who led  62-51 with over four minutes remaining, saw the Paladins fashion a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 64-61 following a
Jada Session layup with 57 seconds remaining. Â Jiselle Thomas countered with a layup to make it 66-61 to check Furman's comeback bid.
Paladin freshman guard
Ella Riggs continued her late regular season surge by scoring a season high 18 points, two days after tallying 15 in a loss at Chattanooga. Â The Cincinnati, Ohio, product finished the game 7-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range. Â Her 31 minutes of playing time off the bench also marked a season high.
Fellow freshman guard
Jaelyn Acker followed with 14 points, and Session rounded out Furman's double figure scoring trio with 11 points.
The Paladins dominated ETSU on the boards, posting a 42-24 edge, but Furman couldn't convert its advantage, mainly due to the Buccaneers' hot shooting (54.1%, 28x59) and foul trouble on the Paladins that limited All-SoCon forward
Grace van Rij to just 21 minutes of court time. Â ETSU finished the contest with 38-20 scoring advantage in the paint.
Thomas followed Folley with 17 points, and Courtney Moore finished with 12.Â
Furman wraps up its regular season with a pair of home games beginning next Thursday when it plays host to Mercer in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
