Furman Falls To Mercer, 88-69

van Rij Leads FU With 24 Points

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Amoria Neal-Tysor poured in a career high 42 points to pace hot shooting Mercer to an 88-69 win over Furman in Southern Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.

Neal-Tysor, a graduate guard, connected on 14-of-24 shots, including 5-of-8 3-pointers, and 9-of-11 free throws for her 42 points, which topped her previous career standard of 34 set against Western Carolina last year.  The 42 points also marked a new scoring standard in Timmons Arena.

Neal-Tysor's accurate shooting paced a 52.5 percent shooting effort by Mercer (12-14, 8-5 SoCon), which put own 32-of-61 shots, including 10-of-20 from 3-point range.

Furman (10-18, 2-11 SoCon) was led by Grace van Rij with 24 points and 10 rebounds.  The double-double was the fifth of the season for van Rij, a graduate forward playing in the next to last home game of her Paladin career.

The Paladins play host to Samford on Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. contest.

Erin Houp was the only other Bear in double figures with 18 points.

Jaelyn Acker contributed 12 points for Furman.

The Paladins led 20-19 after one quarter, but Mercer took control in the second period behind Neal-Tysor, who tallied 14 points in the frame to send the Bears into the break with a 41-32 lead.
