HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Senior Anna Morgan (+3) is tied for 33rd to lead the Furman (+27) women's golf team after Monday's opening round at the 11th-annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,220 yard Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
The tournament is being televised by the Golf Channel for the second-consecutive year. The network will carry live coverage every day from 2:30-5:30 p.m. with encore presentations later in the evening, for a total of 21 hours total of airtime for the event.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan birdied No. 6 and finished with a 74 in the tournament's first round. Freshman Faith Johnson (+4) is just one stroke behind Morgan after posting a 75 with a team-high three birdies on Monday, tying for 40th.
Freshman Chloe Johnson (+9) is tied for 79th entering Tuesday's second round. She scored an 80 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 14, while freshman Liza Lapeyre (+11) birdied No. 9 and tallied an 82 to tie for 85th. Junior Caroline Crumrine (+13) birdied No. 18 to finish the day in 87th place with an 84.
The tournament includes 16 teams ranked in the top 50 and ten teams who rank among the nation's top 20. Sixth-ranked LSU (-1) and host South Carolina (-1), who ranks fourth nationally, are tied for the lead, just two strokes ahead of 15th-ranked Auburn. Furman, the only non-Power 5 team in the field, is in 17th place.
The 54-hole tournament continues on Tuesday beginning at 9:20 a.m. with teams teeing off of No. 1 and No. 10. Furman will tee off of No. 10 beginning at 9:20 a.m. and will play in a group with Arkansas and individuals. Live tournament scoring will be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
