Furman Tied For Sixth After Two Rounds At The Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- The Furman men's golf team (+6) is tied for sixth after Sunday's two rounds of The Hayt, which is being hosted by North Florida at the par 72, 6,966 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Sophomore Will Morlan (+2) and senior Ross Funderburke (+2) are tied for 24th entering Monday's final round.  Morlan shot a 77 with a birdie on No. 11 in round one then fired a team-best 69 with a team-high six birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, in round two.  Funderburke posted a 75 with six birdies, showcased by back to back birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, in round one and scored a 1-under 71 with three birdies in the day's second round.

Freshman Harris Barth (+5) carded a 75 with three birdies in the morning round then posted five birdies with three-straight from No. 6 through No. 8 for a 74 in the afternoon, tying for 47th.  Senior Sam Lape (+6) led the Paladins with a 71 in the morning round after recording six birdies, including five on the front and three-straight from No. 1 through No. 3.  He scored a 79 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 16 in the afternoon to tie for 53rd.  Senior Walker Crosby (+7) enters the final round tied for 61st after scoring and 81 with three birdies in round one and rebounding with a 70 with four birdies in the day's second round.

Second-ranked Vanderbilt (-19) leads the field by eight strokes after two rounds.  Host North Florida (-11), which ranks 42nd, is in second place, followed by Louisiana Tech (+1) which has one player who will finish his final two holes on Monday morning prior to the start of round three.  UCF (+4) is in fourth, followed by Florida Gulf Coast (+5) in fifth.  The Paladins (+6) are tied with 39th-ranked Arkansas (+6) for sixth, two strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina (+8) and five strokes ahead of No. 17 Alabama (+11).  Chattanooga (+13) is in tenth place.

Furman ranked second in the field with 39 birdies on Sunday.  

The Paladins will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the final round of the 54-hole tournament and will play in a group with UCF and Florida Gulf Coast.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via http://www.FurmanPaladins.com and http://www.golfstat.com.
