GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman swept UNC Greensboro, 7-0, to open the Southern Conference season Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins (1-5, 1-0 SoCon) won all three doubles matches to take the first point.  Sophomores Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder blanked Olivia Gallagher and Hanna Giddings, 6-0, at flight one, and sophomores Marissa Pennings and Ellie Schulson blew past Arina Babkova and Raegan Mitchell, 6-1, at number two.  At flight three, senior Madison Dillon and sophomore Alexa Griffith posted a 6-1 victory over Alexandra Dodashev and McCollough Perry.

Furman won all six singles matches over the Spartans (2-6, 0-1) in straight sets.  Schulson defeated Babkova, 6-1, 7-6(2), in the top-seeded match up, and Dawson held off Giddings, 6-4, 7-6(5), at flight two.  Pennings topped Juliana Craft, 6-3, 6-2, at number three, and Snyder made quick work of Luna Urso with a 6-3, 6-1 win at number four.  At flight five, Dillon downed Gallagher, 6-0, 7-6(6), and Griffith beat Mitchell, 6-4, 6-3, at flight six.

Furman will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest at Wake Forest.
