Jaelyn Acker scored 19 points and Furman used a strong third quarter to take the lead on the way to a 66-53 victory over Western Carolina in Southern Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.
The win gave Furman (10-14, 2-7 SoCon) the season sweep of Western Carolina (9-16, 2-8 SoCon) and marked the Paladins' 11th consecutive triumph over the Catamounts.
Acker, a freshman guard from Richfield, Wisc., fashioned her top scoring effort since mid-December by converting 3-of-7 3-pointers and through solid work at the free throw line, where she put down 10-of-12 attempts.
Furman's 28 made free throws on 44 attempts represented season highs.

Jada Session recorded her team leading seventh double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Furman trailed 31-38 at halftime before turning it around early in the third quarter, utilizing a full-court press that forced three Catamount turnovers that the Paladins converted into a 7-0 run to take a 42-35 lead following a pair of
Grace van Rij free throws midway through the period.
Western Carolina pulled to within 42-39 on a Jacey Justice layup, but Furman responded to close out the quarter with pair of free throws by Session for 50-41 lead.
The Paladins shot only 31.9 percent from the field (15x47) but made 8-of-22 3-pointers (36.4%).
Western Carolina, which got a 14 points from Kyla Allison and 11 from Zanoria Cruz, shots 40 percent from the field (20x50) but was just 1-of-10 from 3-point range. Â The Catamounts also hit on just 12-of-21 free throw attempts and were outscored in the paint, 34-14.
Furman returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to UNC Greensboro in an 11:30 a.m. tip at Timmons Arena.
