Waco, Texas – The Furman men's tennis team kicked off a three-match road trip in the state of Texas Sunday evening against No. 32 Baylor, falling 6-1 in non-conference action at Hurd Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 4-8 on the season while Baylor improves to 8-9 overall.
In doubles, the Bears won at No. 1 and No. 2 to secure the point and take a 1-0 lead. The No. 10 ranked tandem of Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz defeated
Cole Burnam and
Thomas Kennedy 6-2 and Justin Braverman and Christopher Frantzen followed with a 6-4 win over
Chad Nash and
Ben Cahill at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match between
Elijah Poritzky and
Jerry Barton of the Paladins and Baylor's Luc Koenig and Juampi Mazzuchi went unfinished with the score 6-5.
The Bears would then go on to win five of the six singles matches in straight sets to record the 6-1 victory.
Poritzky, playing at No. 2 singles, registered his third win of the season, and second in a row, after knocking off Marko Miladinovic in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Furman continues its road trip on Tuesday, March 7 traveling to San Antonio, Texas for a 2 p.m. ET match against UTSA.
