Third Inning Outburst Helps Campbell Hold Off Furman, 7-5

Paladins Travel To PC For Tuesday Twinbill

Buies Creek, N.C. – Campbell scored seven runs over the first four innings, including a four-run outburst in the bottom of the third, en route to a 7-5 win over Furman in the finale of the Campbell Invitational Sunday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

The Camels (13-7) plated single runs in the first and second innings before opening the bottom of the third with four consecutive hits, highlighted by Madilyn Gillespie's RBI double and a two-run single from Allyiah Swiney.
 
Furman mounted a rally in the final two innings. Hana Hashioka singled in the top of the sixth and freshman Sylvia Burroughs followed with a two-run blast to left field. The following inning, a Campbell error and Ashlee Lykins single started a Furman rally and Aisley Yoshizumi trimmed the deficit to 7-5 with a two-run single up the middle. The Camels' Kayla Howald got the next two batters to popout to end the threat.
 
Isabella Smith picked up the win for Campbell. She allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings while fanning 10 batters. Swiney drove in three runs to lead the Campbell offense.
 
Lykins and Hashioka each registered two hits for the Paladins and Yosizumi totaled three RBIs.
 
Isabella Cear, making her first start of the season, suffered the loss for the Paladins. She was charged with five earned runs on six hits in two innings of work. Junior Sierra Tufts allowed only a pair of unearned runs on two hits in four innings of relief.

Furman (4-15) concludes its 14-game road trip with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday versus Presbyterian (14-4) in Clinton, S.C. The Paladins return to Pepsi Stadium to host Charleston Southern in a 1 p.m. twinbill on Saturday, March 11.
