Chattanooga, Tenn. – The Furman men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 Southern Conference decision to the Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday afternoon at UTC Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 7-12 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. With the win, Chattanooga improves to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the SoCon.
In doubles, the Mocs won two of the three matches to secure the point and take a 1-0 lead over the Paladins.
Cole Burnam and
Thomas Kennedy, playing at No. 2 doubles, registered their eighth victory of the season after defeating Kerim Hyatt and Kristoff Kincses 7-6.
Chattanooga would then go on to capture singles victories at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 to compile the 5-2 win. Furman received wins from Kennedy at No. 4 and
Jerry Barton at No. 1. In the No. 1 match, Barton picked up his team-leading eighth win, and improved his winning streak to six consecutive matches, with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Hyatt. Kennedy closed out the match with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-3 victory against Peyton Gatti to collect his seventh win of the year.
The Paladins continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon traveling to Johnson City, Tenn. for a 1 p.m. match at East Tennessee State.
