Balanced Scoring Leads Furman Past Radford, 14-6

Dintino Scores 100th Career Goal in Road Win

Radford, Va. – Three Paladins finished with hat tricks as the Furman women's lacrosse team downed the Radford Highlanders, 14-6, in Big South action Wednesday afternoon at the Student Outdoor Recreation Complex.

Furman, who extended its winning streak to three straight games, improves to 7-5 on the season and 4-1 in Big South play. With the loss, Radford drops to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

The Paladins scored 11 of the game's first 12 goals, highlighted by nine consecutive, that extended into the third quarter. Furman outscored the Highlanders 5-1 in the first quarter and then held Radford scoreless throughout the second. After the Highlanders scored with 12:03 left in the first quarter, the Paladins did not allow a goal for nearly 40 minutes.

Molly Faul recorded two of her career high three goals in the second quarter with Hannah Dintino and Sophia Buzelis each collecting a goal. Buzelis' first goal of the contest gave Furman a 9-1 lead at halftime.

Sophie Shaw and Meagan Beal scored in the opening minute of the second half to extend the Paladins' advantage to 11-1. Radford answered with three straight goals to make the score 11-4 heading to the fourth.

Paige Harman netted back-to-back goals to start the fourth quarter as Furman outscored the Highlanders 3-2 in the final period to put the final score at 14-6. Anna Roser secured her hat trick with three minutes remaining in the contest to give the Paladins a 14-5 lead.

Offensively, Dintino, Roser, and Faul all compiled hat tricks. Dintino, Beal, and Faul each finished with a team high four points. Katelyn Sousa picked up a team best three ground balls while Shaw won a career high 12 draws. Grace Gibson led the team with two caused turnovers. In goal, Lily Rathbun totaled eight saves and two ground balls.

Dintino reached a career milestone in the victory becoming just the sixth player in program history to record 100 career goals.

Linley Tirrell led Radford on offense with a hat trick while Erica Lawrence provided two goals. Margaret Gleason contributed two points on one goal and one assist. In goal, Olivia Hunter registered 12 saves and three ground balls.

Furman, who forced the Highlanders into 15 turnovers, concluded the game with 18 ground balls and held a 17-7 advantage in draws.

The Paladins continue their road trip on Saturday afternoon traveling to league-leading Mercer for a 12 p.m. opening draw.
