GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman concluded the non-conference portion of the season Sunday with a 4-1 loss to No. 39 Charlotte at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
Sophomore Jess Dawson scored for the Paladins at flight five singles, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Emma Wilkins.Â
The 49ers (18-5) narrowly won the doubles point to take an early lead. Paladin senior Madison Dillon and freshman Luca Victoria Vocke defeated Lucie Petruzelova and Wilkins, 6-2, at flight three, but Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech posted a 6-1 win versus sophomores Marissa Pennings and Ellie Schulson at number two to even the slate. At flight one, Margaux and Lucia Quiterio came from behind to beat Dawson and sophomore Sara Snyder, who rank 59th nationally, 6-4, for the point.Â
Charlotte won singles matches at flights two, four, and six for the victory. The teams split sets at flights one and three, and the contests were unfinished when the match was called.
The Paladins (7-11, 3-0 SoCon) hit the road for two SoCon matches this week. Furman will play at Chattanooga Thursday at 1 p.m. before facing Samford in Birmingham on Friday at 2 p.m.
