CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Furman pushed its SoCon record to 4-0 Thursday with a 6-1 victory over Chattanooga at the UTC Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Paladins (8-11, 4-0 SoCon) won two of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. Sophomores Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder, who rank 80th nationally, blew past Jessie Young and Caroline Gibbens, 6-2, at flight one, then Rozalie Dohnalova and Lucia Melendez evened the slate with a 6-4 victory over sophomores Marissa Pennings and Ellie Schulson at flight two. In the decisive flight three contest, senior Madison Dillon and freshman Luca Victoria Vocke held off Nicole Abel and Callie Billman, 7-6(5).
In singles action, Furman won five out of the six matches, four in straight sets. Schulson beat Young, 6-4, 6-3, at flight one, and Snyder topped Able, 6-3, 7-5, at flight three. In the number four match, Dawson came from behind for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, advantage over Dohnalova, and at flight five, Dillon swept Melendez, 6-4, 6-1. Vocke blanked Billman, 6-0, 6-0, at number six.
Chattanooga (13-6, 2-3 SoCon) scored at flight two, where Gibbens won by retirement over Pennings.
The Paladins will face Samford in Birmingham on Friday at 2 p.m.
