Clemson, S.C. – Brooke McCubbin held Furman to one run over 6.2 innings in the circle and Valerie Cagle drove in three runs to lead No. 4 Clemson to a 4-1 victory over Furman in non-conference softball action in front of a crowd of 1,892 Wednesday evening at McWhorter Stadium.

Cagle laced a two-run double into the right-center field gap in the bottom of the first to stake the Tigers to a 2-0 lead and followed Maddie Moore's RBI double in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single to increase the Clemson advantage to 4-0.

McCubbin (4-0) held Furman without a hit for the first six innings before freshman
Sylvia Burroughs singled up the middle with two outs in the top of the seventh to spoil the no-hit bid. Regan Spencer came on in relief and plunked
Hannah Poole before unleashing a pair of wild pitches that allowed pinch runner
Natalie Aiello to score. After a base on balls to
Alex Rose Molinar, Spencer retired
Lauren Woodall, the potential tying run, to end the game.

Cagle went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while McKenzie Clark and Moore each notched two hits and scored two runs for the Tigers. McCubbin issued two walks and fanned one over 6.2 innings to earn the victory.

Starter
Lauralee Scott (1-8) took the loss for Furman after allowing two runs on three hits in her lone inning of work.
Emme Buzhardt surrendered two runs over two innings of relief before
Kiley Perry,
Isabella Cear, and
Sierra Tufts combined to shutout the Tigers over the final three frames.

Furman (12-22, 4-2 SoCon) returns home to host Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro in a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday at Pepsi Stadium. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+. Clemson (37-1, 12-0 ACC) continues its homestand on Thursday versus nationally-ranked Florida State.
