Furman Announces Award Winners during Senior Student-Athlete Ceremony

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman athletics department recognized five award winners during its Senior Student-Athlete Ceremony on Thursday evening in Timmons Arena.

Honorees included Andrea Aceveda (volleyball), Natalie Dunn (volleyball), Josh Powers (cross country/track & field), Hannah Dintino (women's lacrosse), and Dominic Roberto (football).

Aceveda received the Dr. Gary Clark Student-Athlete Award, while Dunn was accorded the Elizabeth Blackwell Academic Award and Powers the John M. Block Academic Award.

Dintino and Roberto both were recognized with the Iron Paladin from the department's strength training & conditioning coaches. Recipients of the Iron Paladin are student-athletes who are not only strong in the weight room, but also exemplify an elite standard in work ethic, attitude, and accountability.

Senior student-athletes representing all Furman sports, as well as support groups including band, cheer, dance, managers, and trainers, were presented stoles.

Aceveda, an accounting major with a 3.78 grade point average, concluded her four-year career on the Paladin volleyball team second all-time in digs with 1,652. She helped lead Furman to the finals of the SoCon Volleyball Championship this past season that was highlighted by a four-set win over top-seeded East Tennessee State. Aceveda was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2019 and SoCon All-Tournament Team in 2021. She led the team in digs during each of her four seasons. Aceveda is a three-time selection to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and twice named SoCon Academic All-Conference. This season, she earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Dunn, a health sciences and spanish major with a 3.85 grade point average, appeared in 64 career matches highlighted by a career best 25 in 2021. She turned in a career year during the 2021 campaign, finishing sixth on the team in kills, digs, and blocks. Dunn turned in a career high 13 kills against Chattanooga on October 1, 2021, and 16 digs versus UNC Greensboro on October 16, 2019. She is a three-time selection to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and twice named SoCon Academic All-Conference.

Powers, a Spanish major with a 4.0 grade point average, is a Greenville native who has earned SoCon All-Freshman accolades for outdoor track in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He won the 3,000-meter indoor event last year at the Gamecock Opener with a time of 8:35.77. This season, Powers set a new personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase of 9:14.00 at the Wake Forest Invitational. A two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District pick, he has been named to both the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and SoCon Academic All-Conference Team.

Dintino, who was named first team All-Big South on Thursday, has appeared in 56 career games to go with 41 starts entering this weekend's Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship. A two-time team captain, she has earned All-SoCon and All-Big South accolades throughout her career. Dintino recently became just the sixth player in program history to score 100 career goals. She currently has 150 points, fifth-most in program history, on 110 goals and 40 assists. Dintino has been selected to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, SoCon Academic Honor Roll, SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

Roberto was a consensus second team All-SoCon selection this past season by the coaches and media. The redshirt-junior rushed for 1,120 yards and 11 touchdowns as Furman advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs. His 2022 campaign was highlighted by a career high 252-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance in a win over Western Carolina, for which he was named Stats Perform National Offensive Player of the Week. Roberto has rushed for 2,114 yards, 12th-best in program history, over his four seasons and totaled 21 touchdowns. He is a two-time selection on the SoCon Academic Honor Roll.
