Furman's Williams To Compete As Member Of Team USA At 2023 NACAC Championships

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman junior Carson Williams will compete in the 3,000m Steeplechase as a member of Team USA's U23 world team at the 2023 North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Championships, which will be held July 21-23 in San José, Costa Rica.

The 2023 NACAC U18/U23 Championships will feature athletes from 35 different countries across the NACAC region.  The 3,000m Steeplechase event will be held on Sunday, July 23, at 11 a.m. local time (9 a.m. EDT).

A two-time All-American in the event, Williams qualified for the meet after placing 11th at the NCAA Championships in June.  A native of Raleigh, N.C., he posted a season-best time of 8:38.40 at the preliminaries to take third both in his heat and overall.  The reigning SoCon Champion in the Steeplechase, Williams holds a personal-best time of 8:37.65, which he recorded at the 2022 Lee University Last Chance meet.

"I have always considered representing your national team as the absolute greatest achievement in our sport," said Furman head coach Robert Gary.  "Carson has had a wonderful trajectory in our program, and I am excited to continue to see his growth over the next two years."
