INDEPENDENCE, MINN. -- Furman junior Trey Diehl (-9) won the Minnesota Golf Classic Sunday at the par 72, 6,953 yard Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minn.
A native of Orlando, Fla., Diehl posted a final-round 67 with eight birdies for the victory. On Saturday, he opened the day with a 68 with six birdies then shot even 72 with two birdies in the day's second round. Diehl won the tournament by one stroke over Christopher Bagnell (-8) of Notre Dame and Max Jelinek (-8) of Kansas.
Senior Demi Di Matteo (-5) tied for seventh. He fired a 67 with an eagle on the par-4 No. 16 and four birdies in Saturday's first round then notched a 71 with four birdies in round two. Di Matteo finished with a 73 and a birdie on No. 1 on Sunday. Sophomore Harris Barth (+8) tied for 46th with rounds of 71-79-74=224.

Meanwhile, the Paladin team completed the first two rounds of the Gopher Invitational Sunday at the par 71, 7,293 yard Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.
Junior Will Morlan (+4) led Furman with a team-high four birdies for an even 71 in round one then added a 75 with a birdie on No. 3 in the day's second round. He is tied for 45th entering Monday's final round. Senior Walker Crosby (+5) is one stroke back of Morlan in a tie for 49th place. He posted a 76 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 12 in round one and led the Paladins with six birdies and a 71 in the day's second round.
Senior Ross Funderburke (+8) is tied for 58th after tallying rounds of 77 and 73, respectively, with a total of five birdies on the day, while sophomore Clark Akers (+9) sits in a tie for 63rd with one round to play. Akers shot a 76 with a birdie on No. 13 in the first round and a 75 with a birdie on No. 9 in round two. Senior Mac Scott (+15) eagled the par-5 No. 12 and added a birdie on No. 15 for a 75 in round one then shot an 82 with a birdie on No. 10 in the day's second round to finish the day in 73rd place.
Will King (-8) of Kansas holds the individual lead after posting rounds of 68-66=134 on Sunday.
Northwestern (-5) and UNC Wilmington (-5) are tied for the team lead. Kansas (-2) is three strokes back in third place, while Rutgers (-1) and Minnesota (-1) are tied for fourth. The Paladins (+24) are in 14th place entering Monday's final round.
Furman will tee off of No. 10 beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET on Monday in the final round of the 54-hole tournament and will play in a group with Northern Illinois and Minnesota individuals.
