Raine's Last Second Goal Lifts Furman Over Gardner-Webb, 2-1; Paladins Claim Third Straight Victory

Furman Hosts CofC On Tuesday At 6:00 P.M.

Greenville, S.C. – Senior Jake Raine volleyed in a rebound with one second remaining to lift Furman to a 2-1 victory over Gardner-Webb in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.

With less than 20 seconds remaining, Furman won the ball in the midfield and Josh Hosie played a long ball down the right side to Lashawn Brown. Christian Kraus won the ball on Brown's cross into the box and fired a shot towards goal that caromed to Raine. The forward volleyed a bouncing shot past the goalkeeper from six yards out as time expired to secure the victory.

"Don't ever leave our games early," said Paladin head coach Doug Allison, following the dramatic win. "I'm really happy for Jake Raine to be back in the lineup and for him to get a goal. We scored two nice goals tonight and got a win against a very talented, well-coached Gardner-Webb team."

Furman opened the scoring in the 64th minute when Josh Hosie sprung Brown free down the right wing and the sophomore slid a pass across the box to Kraus to touch past the stranded goalkeeper near the left post at the 63:27 mark.

The Runnin' Bulldogs evened the contest at 69:52 on Jaylen Orr's first goal of the campaign. Caio Hughes fed a pass into the box and Orr tucked a shot between the left post and Paladin goalkeeper Aaron Salinas to knot the match at 1-1.

With less than 12 minutes to play, Gardner-Webb was reduced to 10 men as Odal Brown was shown his second yellow card following a late tackle on Furman's Dylan Lane in the attacking third of the field. Furman took advantage to notch its third consecutive victory and improve to 4-2-0 on the season. Gardner-Webb slipped to 2-2-1.

For the match, Gardner-Webb posted a 12-6 advantage in total shots and 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Patrick Millard stopped one shot for the Runnin' Bulldogs while Salinas turned away five shots to improve to 3-0-0 in net for the Paladins.

Furman continues its homestand on Tuesday night when the Paladins host College of Charleston in the Gray Griffin Memorial Game at Stone Stadium. Admission to all of Furman's regular season home matches is free.
