Davidson Stops Furman's Four-Match Unbeaten Run, 3-1

Lane Nets Paladins' Lone Goal

Greenville, S.C. – Vincent Bennage scored a goal and assisted on a pair as Davidson downed Furman, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

With the victory, the Wildcats upped their record to 6-1-1 on the season while Furman slipped to 4-3-1. The loss stopped the Paladins' four-match unbeaten run, which included three consecutive wins prior to a 1-1 draw versus Charleston last week.

Denis Krioutchenkov opened the scoring for the Wildcats at the 22:36 mark with his third goal of the season. Bennage played a ball forward to Krioutchenkov on the right side of the box and the forward slipped a shot past Furman's goalkeeper inside the right post.

Less than 12 minutes into the second half following a throw in, Bennage flicked a pass to Nicholas Cavallo on the left side of the box where he drilled a low shot into the left side of the net to double the margin at 55:12. In the 62nd minute, Luke Bryant played a cross from the right wing to an unmarked Bennage who nodded his header past Furman's Aaron Salinas to increase Davidson's lead to 3-0.

"Davidson is a really strong team," said Paladin head coach Doug Allison. "They took advantage of their chances tonight and outworked us. It was good to get the goal to avoid the shutout, but we've got work to do to prepare for Southern Conference play."

The Paladins got on the scoreboard in the 71st minute. Josh Hosie lofted a cross into the box where Christian Kraus headed a pass into the path of Dylan Lane. The Raleigh, N.C., native slid to redirect a shot into net with his left foot at the 70:08 mark for his third goal of the season.

Furman managed a 14-13 edge in total shots and an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, but the Wildcats managed to score on three of their four shots on target. Lou Liedtka stopped six shots and the Davidson defense redirected an early Paladin shot off the goal line to earn the victory. Salinas recorded one save for the Paladins.

Furman opens SoCon play at Stone Stadium on Saturday evening when it entertains UNCG in the annual "Quinn Game" for Down Syndrome Awareness.
