Furman Opens SoCon Play, Hosts Annual Quinn Game Saturday Night

Kickoff Set For 7 P.M. At Stone Stadium

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's soccer team opens Southern Conference play when it hosts preseason league favorite UNC Greensboro in the eighth annual "Quinn Game" for Down Syndrome Awareness Saturday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free. The match, sponsored by Bon Secours, will be streamed live on ESPN+ and links for the live stream and live statistics can be found at FurmanPaladins.com.

Saturday's "Quinn Game" was created to promote awareness for Down Syndrome and to honor one of the program's biggest fans, 11-year-old Quinn Cronin, the daughter of former Furman soccer standout McNeil Cronin ('04). Plan to be in your seats early as the Paladins celebrate Quinn.

Furman, picked fourth in preseason polling of the SoCon's six head coaches, enters league play at 4-3-1 overall following its 3-1 loss to Davidson on Tuesday evening at Stone Stadium. The defeat snapped Furman's four-match unbeaten run that included three wins and a draw.

Saturday's match marks the 45th meeting between the Paladins and Spartans with UNCG holding a 22-18-4 series lead. The Spartans have won three straight meetings, including a 5-1 regular season verdict in 2022 and a 6-3 decision in last season's SoCon semifinals.

The Spartans, who reached last season's NCAA quarterfinals, are 1-6-3 on the season after falling 2-1 at home versus No. 2 West Virginia on Tuesday evening in Greensboro, N.C.

Following Saturday's conference opener, Furman is back at Stone Stadium on Tuesday night for a non-conference tilt versus USC Upstate.
