Furman Battles USC Upstate on Tuesday

Paladins Have Won Five Straight over the Spartans

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team is back at Alley Gymnasium on Tuesday evening to host the USC Upstate Spartans in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. The match is being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+. Updates will also be posted on the Furman volleyball Twitter page (@FurmanVB).

Admission to all Paladin home matches this season is free of charge with first-come, first-serve seating.

Furman (4-1) is coming off a home-and-home sweep of UNC Asheville capped by a 3-0 sweep last Friday in Asheville, N.C. In the win at UNC Asheville, the Paladins compiled a .245 hitting percentage while limiting the Bulldogs to an .074 clip. Furman concluded the match holding a 38-31 advantage in kills and assists, and 46-43 in digs.

Lindsay Walch recorded a career high 12 kills on .500 hitting to lead the Paladins offensively. Mary Beth Headley contributed seven kills, on .353 hitting, and a team best nine digs, while Ava Augustson provided six kills and seven digs. Ella Abraham dished out 30 assists to go with seven digs. Defensively, Izzy Castelloe totaled five blocks (one solo, four assisted) and Kennedy Seekford added eight digs.

USC Upstate also enters the matchup with a 4-1 overall record after defeating both South Carolina State and Georgia State in three sets last Saturday. The Spartans opened their season August 25-26 with wins over Queens (N.C.) and Stonehill at the Eagle Challenge in Morehead, Ky. USC Upstate is under the direction of first-year head coach Ali Skayhan.

Furman is facing the Spartans for the 21st time in program history with USC Upstate holding a 13-7 advantage in the all-time series. The Paladins, however, have won each of the past five meetings dating back to 2012. Furman swept the Spartans in three sets last season in Greenville.

The Paladins play their final tournament of the season this weekend, September 8-9, traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to face Marshall, South Carolina State, and Queens (N.C.) at the Queens Fall Classic.
