Greenville, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team plays its final tournament of the season this weekend traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to face Marshall, South Carolina State, and Queens (N.C.) as part of the Queens Fall Classic at the Levine Center.

The Paladins open tournament play on Friday against Marshall (10 a.m.) and South Carolina State (3 p.m.) before taking on Queens (N.C.) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Furman, who is off to its first 5-1 start since 2012, won its third straight match on Tuesday after sweeping USC Upstate in three sets at Alley Gymnasium. The Paladins wrapped up the contest hitting .308 as a team, their third time this season reaching a mark of .300 or better, and held a 44-40 advantage in kills, 43-34 in assists, and 57-43 in digs. The win over the Spartans was Furman's sixth consecutive victory in the series.
Mary Beth Headley recorded her first double-double of the season, 14 kills and 13 digs, while
Ava Augustson provided 13 kills to lead the Paladins offensively.
Lindsay Walch also provided nine kills and hit over .300 along with Headley and Augustson.
Ella Abraham dished out 33 assists while adding eight digs. Defensively,
Kennedy Seekford recorded a career high 14 digs and
Grainne McGrath and
Izzy Castelloe both totaled three blocks.
Marshall enters the weekend with a 3-5 overall record while Queens (N.C.) is 2-4 and South Carolina State 0-7. Furman trails Marshall 16-14 in the all-time series while holding a 3-0 advantage over South Carolina State. The Paladins are facing Queens (N.C.) for the first time in program history.
Furman wraps up its non-conference schedule next week, September 14-15, against Presbyterian and Georgia State. The Paladins travel to Presbyterian on September 14 before hosting Georgia State on September 15.
