TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama topped Furman, 7-0, Saturday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Crimson Tide won the top two doubles matches to take the opening point.  Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser, who rank 41st nationally, teamed up for a 6-4 victory over junior Jess Dawson and freshman Maeve Thornton at number one.  At flight two, Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko defeated juniors Sara Snyder and Grace Thomas, 6-4.  The flight three contest between junior Ellie Schulson and freshman Macy Hitchcock and Alabama's Ola Pitak and Margaux Maquet was knotted at 5-all when play was called.

Furman pushed Alabama to a third set in three of the six singles matches.  Snyder won the second set, 6-2, versus 18th-ranked Bencheikh, who took the 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win at flight one.  In the second seeded match up, Thornton picked up a 7-5 win in set one before Maquet won the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(7), and claimed a final tiebreaker, 10-3, for the victory.  After losing set one, 6-4, Hitchcock posted a 6-2 win in set two versus Parkhomenko, who took the point with a 6-2 final set advantage. 

Alabama won the final three contests in straight sets.  Pitak beat Shulson, 6-2, 6-2, at number three, and Hiser held off Thomas, 6-3, 7-5, at flight four.  Klara Milicevic entered the lineup at flight six, where she downed Dawson, 6-3, 6-2. 

Furman (0-2) returns home to entertain UNC Asheville Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
