Furman Comes Up Short At The Citadel, 3-1

Parker, Stein Lead Paladins With 19 Kills

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Three Bulldogs finished with double-doubles on Saturday afternoon as The Citadel registered a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 23-25) victory over the Furman Paladins in Southern Conference volleyball action inside McAlister Field House.

Furman drops to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the SoCon. With the win, The Citadel improves to 10-9 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.

Chandler Parker and Ashley Stein both led the Paladins offensively with career highs of 19 kills. Stein turned in her second double-double this year adding 12 digs. Quinn Morrissey recorded her fourth double-double of the season, and second this weekend, after dishing out a career best 50 assists to go with 12 digs. Kennedy Seekford had a team high 21 digs while Hayley Dionis and Ava Augustson both contributed 10.

Belle Hogan, Mackenzie Martin, and Ali Ruffin all posted double-doubles for the Bulldogs. Martin led the team with 16 kills while Hogan totaled 45 assists. Jaelynn Elgert led all players with a match high 24 digs.

Stein finished with seven of her 19 kills in the opening set on .333 hitting as Furman began the match with a 25-23 triumph to take the early lead. The Paladins started on a 7-3 run, capped by a combination block from Parker and Genevieve Perry, before building a 10-5 lead. Augustson and Izzy Castelloe combined for a block to give Furman the five-point lead. The Citadel cut its deficit to two points midway before the Paladins sat at set point leading 24-20 after Stein's kill. The Bulldogs got to within one point before Stein captured the set for Furman.

The Citadel responded by winning the next three sets 25-23, 25-18, and 25-23 to secure the four-set victory.

The Paladins concluded the match hitting .208 as a team and held a 55-54 advantage in assists. Furman also led 10.0-8.0 in blocks.

The Paladins return to Alley Gymnasium next weekend, October 24-25, to host UNC Greensboro and East Tennessee State.
