BOSTON, Mass. -- Furman's Dylan Schubert crushed the previous Paladin indoor 5,000m record Saturday at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass.
A senior from Loveland, Colo,. Schubert finished fifth with a time of 13:17.89, breaking the former Furman record of 13:29.95, which he set last season. Schubert's time ranks fifth nationally on the NCAA indoor championships qualifying list. Â
Senior Carson Williams placed 24th in the event with a PR of 13:31.85 and sits at 20th on the national qualifying list.Â
On the women's side, senior Kaylie Armitage took 32nd with a personal-best time of 9:14.06 in the 3,000m and is currently ranked 24th nationally, while junior Carly Wilkes placed 58th at 16:13.96 in the 5,000m. She ranks 41st nationally in the event.
"This was great meet for the program," said Furman men's track and field head coach Robert Gary. "Kaylie had a super PR and won her heat, and Carson made a strong move to the front before finishing third in his heat with a PR. Dylan's PR was incredible, breaking his own school record by 12 seconds to rank fifth in the country."Â
After the winter break, Furman will compete at the Vanderbilt Invite in Nashville, Tenn., January 17-18.
