JOHNSON CITY, TENN. -- Nevaeh Brown scored a game high 19 points and East Tennessee used accurate shooting and a strong third quarter to pull away from Furman en route to a 79-54 win in Southern Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at Brooks Gym.
With the victory East Tennessee State improves to 15-6 overall and 4-2 in SoCon play. Â The loss drops Furman to 12-10 overall and 2-4 in league action.
After ETSU's Courtney Moore drained a 3-pointer to send ETSU into the locker room with a 34-30 lead, the Buccaneers wasted no time in taking control in the third quarter, converting on three of their first four possessions in a 7-0 run to go up 41-30 following a layup by Brown less than two minutes into the period.
A Jaileyah Cotton free throw finished off another 11-2 burst by ETSU over the next four minutes and gave the Buccaneers a 52-32 advantage on the way to a 25-14 third quarter, effectively sealing the game's outcome.
Furman got a team high 14 points and eight rebounds from
Kate Johnson. Â
Sydney Ryan finished with 13 points, and
Jaelyn Acker contributed a season high 11 points. Â
Jada Session finished with 10 points.
The Buccaneers shredded Furman's defense, connecting on 26-of-53 shots (49.1%) and outscored the Paladins by 12 points at free throw line, aided by a 25-13 advantage in fouls.
ETSU took advantage of 20 Furman turnovers to register a 22-8 advantage in points off miscues.
The Paladins won the rebounding battle, 41-34.
Furman's road swing continues Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Chattanooga.
