GREENVILLE, S.C. --
Tate Walters came off the bench to score 17 points and power an impressive second half performance by Furman en route to a 64-51 win over Wofford in Southern Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.
The victory, the second in a row by Furman (14-12, 4-6 SoCon), earned the Paladins the regular season split with Wofford  (15-9, 7-3 SoCon) and halted the Terriers' three-game winning streak.
Walters' 15 points came on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-for-4 work from 3-point range, and 3-for-4 free throws. Â The Buford, Ga., product also contributed three assists in 21 minutes of action.
Niveya Henley followed with 15 points, and
Sydney James contributed 10 points. Â
Walters, who sat out four games earlier this month due to injury and played only eight minutes in the Paladins' 58-53 win over Western Carolina on Saturday, scored four points in just six first half minutes of play after being whistled for two fouls. Â It was a different story, however, in the third quarter as the redshirt junior guard buried the first of four second half treys in a decisive 16-2 Paladin run that also included six points by Henley to put Furman up, 43-24, with 3:24 remaining in the period.
Leading 46-30 after three quarters, the Paladins continued the blitz in fourth, opening the frame with a 13-2 streak that featured a pair of 3-pointers by Walters, who finished off the rally with a basket to stretch Furman's advantage to 59-32 with five minutes to go.
The Paladins' 27-point lead survived to under the four-minute mark before some late scoring by Wofford massaged the final score.
Furman's strong second half was fueled by hot shooting, as the Paladins connected on 15-of-28 offerings (53.6%) over the final 20 minutes, including 7-of-14 treys.
The solid shooting marked a stark contrast from the season's first meeting in Spartanburg in early January when the Paladins suffered through a season worst 2-for-26 effort from beyond the arc in a 69-51 loss. Â Furman finished the return engagement by game hitting on 11-of-26 3-point attempts (42.3%).
The Paladins registered 18 assists on 22 made baskets in the contest.
Wofford's Rachael Rose led all scorers with 25 points, but no other Terrier joined her in double figures. Â Wofford suffered through a 17-for-54 shooting effort (31.5%).
Jada Session led Furman's 36-32 rebounding edge with 11 caroms and also tallied a team high five assists.
